Fragrance or <a href=”perfume” title=”Perfumes”>Perfume</a> is a mixture of fragrant essential oils or aroma compounds, fixatives and solvents used to give the human body, animals, food, objects, and living spaces “a pleasant scent’’. A wonderful smell, alight fragrance, how do you choose? When looking for a new perfume, know that it will not smell the same on you as it does in the bottle or test strip. A perfume will react with your body chemistry to create a scent that is completely unique to you. Perfume can be expensive and it is important that you are patient when choosing a scent. It may even take longer than a day to find your perfect perfume. Perfumes have been known to exist in some of the earliest human civilizations, either through ancient texts or from archaeological digs. Modern perfumery began in the late 19th century with the commercial synthesis of aroma compounds such as vanillin or coumarin, which allowed for the composition of perfumes with smells previously unattainable solely from natural aromatics alone. The conventional application of pure Fragrance in Western cultures is at pulse points, such as behind the ears, the nape of the neck, and the insides of wrists, elbows, and knees, so that the pulse point will warm the perfume and release fragrance continually. The modern perfume industry encourages the practice of layering fragrance so that it is released in different intensities depending upon the time of the day. Lightly scented products such as bath oil, shower gel, and body lotion are recommended for the morning; eau de toilette is suggested for the afternoon, and perfume applied to the pulse points for the evening. Cologne fragrance is released rapidly, lasting around 2 hours. Eau de toilette lasts from 2 to 4 hours, while perfume may last up to six hours. A variety of factors can influence how fragrance interacts with the wearer’s own physiology and affect the perception of the fragrance. Diet is one factor, as eating spicy and fatty foods can increase the intensity of a fragrance. The use of medications can also impact the character of a fragrance. The relative dryness of the wearer’s skin is important since dry skin will not hold fragrance as long as the skin with more oil. To find a good Fragrance Apply the perfume to pulse points when attempting to make a selection. Pulse points actually radiate warmth because they are where blood vessels are closest to the surface of the skin. After waiting ten minutes to allow the scent to develop the Fragrance to a pulse point, scents can actually take hours to develop. Smell the perfume on skin repeatedly, throughout the day. If you enjoy the scent each time that you test it, you may have found the right perfume. Refrain from trying more than two perfumes at a time. You will not be able to differentiate the scents and make the proper choice. Consider the weather that you live in when choosing a perfume. Humid temperatures will intensify the perfume. Choose a lighter scent if you live in a humid climate. The scent of Fragrance will not last as long if you have dry skin. The scent actually clings to oils in the skin and will fade quickly if your skin is fairly dry. If you do have dry skin, consider a perfume with musk or sandalwood fragrance. These bases tend to last longer

Amazingly 10% of ‘designer’ fragrances are considered to be counterfeit.  As a woman how do you protect your investment when purchasing your favorite perfume?  The following is a list of 10 things to look for so you don’t get scammed when you make your next perfume purchase. Many fragrances are sold on-line at reduced prices. This will be your best indicator that the perfume is not real. Be especially suspicious about bargain buys and of course any sale that is too good to be true is just that. If the perfume is being sold for half of the cost it should be sold for avoid the purchase. Labeling  The label on your perfume bottle should be impeccable. It should be perfectly aligned on the bottle and not have any imperfections in the label itself or the printing. Essential Oils Real fragrances are made with essential oils. These oils do not go rancid and can last in your perfume bottle for up to 5 years.  The perfume should not look oily, feel oily nor should it have a skim of oil on the top wherein you have to shake the perfume bottle to mix the oils.  Bottling Designer perfumes are packaged in designer bottles which have no imperfections such as bubbles in the glass or moulding marks; lines in the glass where the two half were moulded together.  If you see any of these imperfections in the bottling do not purchase it as it is a counterfeit. The Packaging  Inspect the outside of the perfume box. Make sure you check the spelling carefully on the entire box. You would be amazed at how the counterfeits make one small spelling error that can be hard to find. The packaging should also be made of quality cardboard and the coloring should be consistent all around the box. The cellophane wrapping should be tight against the box and not loose or bubbly. There should not be any glue or tape residue inside of the box. The Fragrance Itself Essential oils are sweet smelling and never bitter or sour.  If you smell any type of bitterness or sourness in the perfume it isn’t real and don’t buy it. Consistency and Color  All perfumes should be clear in color.  There should be no appearance of oils or separation of oil and liquid or any darkness or cloudiness. Sales of Large Quantities If you notice someone on-line selling large quantities of ‘designer’ perfume you can bet that they are counterfeit.  Barcodes If you notice that there are barcodes on the inside bottom of the box as well as the outside bottom of the box, don’t purchase it as it is a counterfeit.  Barcodes should only be located on the outside bottom of the box. Bottle Inscriptions An authentic bottle of perfume will always have inscribed on it the country where the perfume was produced, the date of production, expiration date and the composition of the product. If these are absent on the bottle it’s a counterfeit. Make sure you read the inscriptions carefully as counterfeiters will add an extra letter to a name or leave a letter out. Example: Cool Winter instead of Cool Water or Genzo instead of Kenzo.
